Rehousing street children in Tanzania
Many Shades was established in 2013 with a vision to rehouse street children in Arusha, Tanzania. There are an estimated 437,000 street children living in Tanzania. The best result is to reunite children with their families, and assisting families by providing financial and emotional support for the child to attend school and most importantly to stay with their family.
However, this is not possible for many of the children who have left their homes to escape violence and abuse or have been abandoned by their family. Many Shades is providing sustainable shelter by housing these children in family style homes for between 7 and 10 children, offering education, care and support. These homes, run by Tanzanian carers, will be their home until the children graduate from high school, and are able to financially and emotionally care for themselves.
By providing these children with the stepping stones to create meaningful futures, they are also given the tools to create a change within their community, to help break the cycle of homelessness for those under 18 years of age.
